Chapter 2: Features
The Inspector measures alpha, beta, gamma, and x-ray radiaon. It is opmized to detect small changes
in radiaon levels and to have high sensivity to many common radionuclides. For more informaon, see
Appendix A, “Sensivity to Common Radionuclides. This chapter briey describes The Inspectors funcons.
For more informaon on how to use the Inspector, see Chapter 3: Operaon. The Inspector counts ionizing
events and displays the results on the liquid crystal display (LCD). You control which unit of measurement is
shown by using the mode switch. Whenever the Inspector is operang, the red count light (8) ashes each
me a count (an ionizing event) is detected.

The LCD (liquid crystal display. Figure 1) shows various indicators according to the mode seng, funcon(s)
being performed, and baery condion as shown below.
Indicators:
• X1000 (A) appears when the numeric display is to be mulplied by 1000.
• TOTAL (B) appears when The Inspector is in Total/Timer mode.
• An hourglass (C) appears to the le of the numeric display while in the Cal mode or during a med count.
• A Radiaon Symbol (D) Appears to the le of the numeric display when the Alert mode is acvated.
• A Baery Icon (E) appears to the le of the numeric display indicang low baery voltage.
• The Isotope Icons (F) idenfy the user selected isoptope eciency for calculang acvity. (See Chapter 9:
Built in Isotope Eciencies)
• MENU (G) appears upon entering the menu.
• Averaging (H) appears when switching between Auto-Averaging and Fast Response mode.
• CAL (I) is shown while you are calibrang the Inspector.
• SET (J) appears when you are seng the mer (the numeric display shows the med period instead of the
current radiaon level) and while adjusng sengs in the Ulity and Alarm Menus.
• The current unit of measurement (K)—CPM, CPS, mR/hr, µSv/hr, Bq, or DPM—is displayed to the right of the
numeric display.
• The Numeric Display (L) shows the current radiaon level in the unit specied by the mode switch seng.
• RANGE:Full (M) appears when the radiaon present exceeds the upper detecon limit of The Inspector.
• RECORDING (N) appears when The Inspector is logging data to the internal memory.
• Alarm On/O (O) indicates that the alarm has been set in the ulity menu.
