Chapter 2: Features
The Inspector measures alpha, beta, gamma, and x-ray radiaon. It is opmized to detect small changes
in radiaon levels and to have high sensivity to many common radionuclides. For more informaon, see
Appendix A, “Sensivity to Common Radionuclides.” This chapter briey describes The Inspector’s funcons.
For more informaon on how to use the Inspector, see Chapter 3: Operaon. The Inspector counts ionizing
events and displays the results on the liquid crystal display (LCD). You control which unit of measurement is
shown by using the mode switch. Whenever the Inspector is operang, the red count light (8) ashes each
me a count (an ionizing event) is detected.

The LCD (liquid crystal display. Figure 1) shows various indicators according to the mode seng, funcon(s)
being performed, and baery condion as shown below.
Indicators:
• X1000 (A) appears when the numeric display is to be mulplied by 1000.
• TOTAL (B) appears when The Inspector is in Total/Timer mode.
• An hourglass (C) appears to the le of the numeric display while in the Cal mode or during a med count.
• A Radiaon Symbol (D) Appears to the le of the numeric display when the Alert mode is acvated.
• A Baery Icon (E) appears to the le of the numeric display indicang low baery voltage.
• The Isotope Icons (F) idenfy the user selected isoptope eciency for calculang acvity. (See Chapter 9:
Built in Isotope Eciencies)
• MENU (G) appears upon entering the menu.
• Averaging (H) appears when switching between Auto-Averaging and Fast Response mode.
• CAL (I) is shown while you are calibrang the Inspector.
• SET (J) appears when you are seng the mer (the numeric display shows the med period instead of the
current radiaon level) and while adjusng sengs in the Ulity and Alarm Menus.
• The current unit of measurement (K)—CPM, CPS, mR/hr, µSv/hr, Bq, or DPM—is displayed to the right of the
numeric display.
• The Numeric Display (L) shows the current radiaon level in the unit specied by the mode switch seng.
• RANGE:Full (M) appears when the radiaon present exceeds the upper detecon limit of The Inspector.
• RECORDING (N) appears when The Inspector is logging data to the internal memory.
• Alarm On/O (O) indicates that the alarm has been set in the ulity menu.
